How to: Install flash plugin in 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04

If you have a flash plugin for 32bit machine installed, make sure to remove it first.

Removing 32bit flash plugin installed:

1. Open Synaptic Package Manager.
System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager
2. Search for: nsplugin
find the "nspluginwrapper" and click the green box before it then choose Mark for complete removal.
3. Click Apply
You will then get notified that another plugin named flashplugin-nonfree will be removed too. Just click apply again.
4. Close Synaptic Package Manager

Installing 64bit flash plugin:

1. Download 64bit flash player pluggin for ubuntu.
2. Close all opened firefox.
3. Extract the files you download (i.e. the 64bit flash plugin) to obtain the libflashplayer.so file
4. Open .Mozilla folder by navigating into your home folder then from the Menu click on
Edit > Preferences
5. File Management Preferences will pop-up from the views tab, check the box that says Show hidden and backup files > close.
6. Go to .Mozilla folder and from there, make a new folder and name it as 'plugins' (without the quotes)
7. Copy libflashplayer.so file and paste it inside the plugins folder.
8. Open Firefox.
9. Enjoy watching flash vids :D

  1. I tried your way and it didn't work for me. What worked for me was instead of getting to ~/.mozilla/plugins, I put it in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. I got it from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1081964&highlight=flash+10 .
